Kia ora koutou,
We hope you had a chance to rest and recharge over the Easter and ANZAC break.
Now that we’re well into autumn, it’s a great time to reflect on the growing momentum in the HealthTech space — both here in Aotearoa and around the world. The past few months have been full of energy, fresh ideas, and exciting developments across the sector.
This month's wrap focuses on events – we bring you highlights from our most recent workshops and webinars, including access to all the key insights and resources from these programmes. We also take a look at the exciting lineup of workshops and sector events that are on the horizon.
Since the start of the year, HealthTech Activator has hosted five events, bringing together 61 attendees representing 47 companies, research groups, and industry organisations. These events have sparked important conversations around market access, reimbursement, and regulatory pathways — all critical to helping innovation thrive and reach the people who need it most.
There’s a real sense of progress, with new connections forming and homegrown solutions gaining recognition. We’re continually inspired by the mahi happening across the community, and we’re excited to see where this momentum takes us next.

HTA Workshop and Webinar Recap: Health Economics and Demystifying Quality and Regulatory
This past month, we focused on Health Economics, hosting both a webinar and a workshop held on the 8th and 10th of April respectively. Both events were facilitated by Abbas Al-Murrani, Managing Director & Founder of Health Economics Consulting NZ, with the workshop delivered in collaboration with Te Tītoki Mataora (TTM).
These events looked at how healthcare resources are allocated and how decisions are made about what gets funded — a vital area for understanding the value of innovations in the healthcare system. This also ties directly into reimbursement strategy, helping companies navigate the processes that determine how and by whom their products are paid for.
The webinar brought together experts to explore how economic frameworks can inform smarter, more sustainable HealthTech solutions. You can watch the full webinar here.
The hands-on workshop, held in partnership with TTM, delved deeper into key concepts such as cost-effectiveness, budget impact, and value-based care. Check out the key takeaways in the full workshop wrap-up here.
If you’re navigating this space, be sure to explore HealthTech Activator’s dedicated reimbursement page. This resource offers practical guidance on mapping out reimbursement pathways, aligning with funder priorities, and articulating the value of your product within the healthcare context.
We continued our focus on quality and regulatory strategy, with the recent Demystifying Quality and Regulatory Workshop, held in Auckland on 20 March. Facilitators Yaara Yarmut (Alimetry) and Natalia Lopez (Kitea Health) unpacked key topics like Quality Management Systems (QMS), risk management, and regulatory classifications. It highlighted how early integration of quality systems and strategic planning can smooth the path to market and safeguard patient outcomes. Catch up on the key insights in the full workshop wrap-up here.
If you have any questions or want to dive deeper into any of these areas, don’t hesitate to reach out. Whether you're just starting to explore health economics or refining your regulatory and reimbursement strategy, we’re here to help as you navigate this important part of your HealthTech journey.
