Kia ora koutou,
Welcome to the May Edition of the HealthTech Activator (HTA) Monthly Wrap!
Momentum is building across Aotearoa’s healthtech sector, and this month marks a significant shift. The announcement of strong government backing through Budget 2025 signals renewed national commitment to innovation and health delivery.
Alongside this, sector capability continues to grow through targeted initiatives like the HTA’s upcoming June workshops, these efforts are helping to build a strong foundation for innovation – complementing the governments bold investment and signalling a step-change for the sector.
Budget 2025 – A Record Investment in Health Delivery
The New Zealand Government’s 2025 Budget signals a decisive commitment to innovation and health delivery. A record $7 billion increase to Vote Health will strengthen core services and infrastructure, while also creating more space for growth in digital health, diagnostics, and medtech. Alongside this, a new 20% tax deduction for productive asset purchases is set to stimulate business investment, directly benefiting healthtech developers scaling their tools, systems, and technologies. Meanwhile, the launch of Invest New Zealand, as a new national investment attraction agency, further highlights the government’s recognition of technology, including health innovation, as a pillar of long-term economic strategy.
This national push towards improving health services aligns well with our next event: the Clinical Investigation Process for Medical Devices Workshop, happening 10–11 June in Auckland. Designed for startups, researchers, CROs, and sponsors, this two-day, in-person session will walk you through New Zealand’s ethics landscape, clinical trial setup, data quality, and regulatory requirements. The workshop is led by Julie Jones of BioValeo, a seasoned expert in clinical research across multiple trial phases and therapeutic areas. It’s the perfect place to get grounded in what you’ll need to generate and manage clinical evidence for global market access.
Register here by 2 June — spots are limited.
As always, we encourage you to explore the broader clinical validation resources available via the HTA platform. From ethics approval to operational oversight, we’re building the toolkit to support your clinical journey from idea to impact.
In a month where public investment is setting the stage for private innovation, there’s no better time to sharpen your strategy, build your clinical evidence, and connect with the support that can help you grow. Reach out to the HTA team — we’re here to help you take the next step.
Wishing you a productive and inspiring month ahead!
