Spotlight on a Summer Fellow

Summer Fellow Daisy Dang was working in the Mitchell Library Reading Room when she came across a fascinating collection of posters and artworks.

Collected by Australian authors Len Fox and Mona Brand when they lived in Hanoi during the 1950s, many of these works, including Đông Hồ paintings, would have been used as decorations to celebrate Tết in Vietnam, also known as the Lunar New Year.

Daisy is one of our 2026 Summer Fellows who have been spending time digging into the archives. The Summer Fellows program was introduced in 2025 to foster creative practice, research and study into a variety of topics. Daisy’s project is called Where Eating Meets Meaning: Vietnamese food in proverbs, poetry and folktales.

Keep an eye on the Library’s Instagram, where we’ll be sharing a video with Daisy to mark the start of the Year of the Horse on 17 February 2026.
