Port News

February 2026

CEO's message

Welcome to the February edition of Port of Brisbane News.

Port of Brisbane continues to be a hub of activity with initiatives supporting our community and sustainability programs, customer milestones and collaboration across the wider port community.

This month, we welcomed MSC’s new Eagle Service with the arrival of MV Etoile, while our refreshed Safety Leaders Group met for the first time, bringing together representatives from across the port community.

Applications are now open for our $100,000 Community Grant Program, supporting organisations across wellbeing, education, environment, arts and culture.

We’ve also strengthened our long-standing partnership with TSBE, reinforcing the importance of regional connectivity as we work with industry to support Queensland’s trade growth and supply chain resilience.

If you would like more information about anything in this edition of Port of Brisbane News, please contact us.

Trade update

The Port of Brisbane welcomed MSC’s new Eagle Service with the arrival of the MV Etoile containership – the first vessel of the new service – to Patrick Terminal’s Brisbane Autostrad in early February.

The new weekly service adds an additional direct connection to and from the East Coast of the United States, strengthening our global trade links, expanding capacity, and supporting exporters and importers across the Port.

More than 20 individual shipping lines operate regular liner services to the Port of Brisbane, alongside numerous bulk and general cargo vessels, connecting Queensland trade with the world.

Safety Leaders Group reinvigorated

Our reinvigorated Port of Brisbane Safety Leaders Group brings together health, safety and wellbeing representatives from across the port community to collaborate on shared priorities.

Meeting quarterly, the group provides a forum to exchange learnings, strengthen safety leadership, and support capability development across the Port of Brisbane.

Thank you to everyone who joined the first meeting in February and contributed to constructive conversations that reinforce our safety first culture.

If your organisation is part of the port community and would like to participate, please email Andrew Beckman, Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing.

Whyte Island tree planting day

Volunteers were out in force in February to plant 700 trees at our Whyte Island environmental area where a multi-year project is underway to rehabilitate coastal port land that supports saltmarsh, mangrove and woodland habitats.

Together with our long-standing partner, Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee (B4C), we’ve now planted more than 12,000 native plants at Whyte Island, helping to rehabilitate this important area.

Thank you to the volunteers from our customer Hutchison Ports Australia and partner Ventia, who lent a hand on the day.

Applications now open $100,000 Community Grant Program

Do you know a local organisation that could use grant funding?

A total of $100,000 in funding is on offer for eligible organisations and registered not-for-profits through our Community Grant Program, with up to $15,000 available for individual initiatives.

Last year we supported 12 organisations from Brisbane’s Bayside to southern Queensland, working to uplift youth, provide essential assistance to families, preserve local history and lead citizen science initiatives in the community.

We encourage organisations focused on community wellbeing, education, the environment, arts and culture to consider submitting an application, with First Nations organisations strongly encouraged to apply.

Applications close Thursday 30 April. Please email us at info@portbris.com.au or call our team on 3258 4888 for more information.

Whyte Island Boat Ramp

Fulton Hogan will be using the Whyte Island Boat Ramp from Monday 9 March 2026 to barge materials to the Luggage Point seawall (Pinkenba) as part of a project it is delivering for Urban Utilities.

Use of the boat ramp will occur intermittently from Monday to Friday, between 9.30am and 3.30pm, for approximately 5 weeks.

The Boat Ramp remains open to the public during this time and Fulton Hogan will maintain public access at all times. However, please be patient should minor delays occur.

International Women's Day

Every year, PBPL brings together the port community to celebrate International Women’s Day and this year we’re hosting a morning tea on Wednesday 11 March at the Port recognising UN Women Australia’s theme, Balance the Scales.

Our event will feature a keynote address from Respect@Work’s Jacque Lachmund, who will share her career journey, personal experiences and insights into how we can all step up and be part of real change in advancing gender equity within workplaces and the community.

Please contact events@portbris.com.au for more information or to register your interest.

Waddi Specialty Coffee arrives at Port Central Cafe

Next time you’re at the Port and looking for a great coffee, head into the Port Central Cafe who is now serving specialty coffee beans by majority First Nations owned supplier, Waddi.

Through our ‘Innovate’ Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), we’re committed to increasing First Nations procurement and opportunities to work with Indigenous suppliers, including through our Supply Nation membership.

We currently partner with First Nations suppliers in the areas of consulting, landscaping, catering, training, waste services, cultural performances, and office consumables.

You can read our Innovate RAP on our website.

Channel Enhancement Project

Work continues to progress on the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Port of Brisbane’s Channel Enhancement Project following the release of the final Terms of Reference on 10 September 2025. As part of this process, the Port of Brisbane project team has been carrying out detailed studies and investigations to review and refine the project’s design.

The project team is assessing an optimised channel design within the channel corridor and port limits that maintains navigational safety and operational objectives but will lower the overall volume of material required to be dredged.

For the latest project update, information and to provide feedback, please visit the project  website for more.
