Marking 50 years at Parliament House
Last month we held a reception at Parliament House, reflecting on the Queensland Government’s bold vision to establish the modern port at Fisherman Islands and the investment, innovation and collaboration that have followed over five decades.
The Hon. Brent Mickelberg, Minister for Transport and Main Roads, representing the Premier, and the Hon. Cameron Dick, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, joined the event and spoke as part of the formalities.
We were joined by Ministers, Members of Parliament and senior government representatives along with customers and industry partners – strong recognition of the Port’s contribution to Queensland communities, regions and economy.

A three-year project has restored 20.3 hectares of coastal habitat at Whyte Island to Queensland Herbarium Standards, improving ecosystem resilience of this important environmental area.
The works involved planting 13,640 native plants, preventing unauthorised access and establishing new fauna habitats along with targeted weed and pest management.
Monitoring by Queensland Wader Study Group recorded a 65% increase in shorebird numbers using the adjoining Lytton Claypan and a 40% increase in important migratory species in the area.
Delivered with BMT, Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee (B4C), Tuff Yards and Wedge Tail Solutions, the project will now move into ongoing monitoring and maintenance to protect and build on these positive outcomes.

Trade
Container trade remains strong, with more than 600,000 TEU handled in the financial year to the end of October, up 3.4% on the same period last year. Growth has been supported by strong imports of building products, electrical goods and steel. Export volumes, however, have been trending below expectations with agricultural commodities such as cotton yet to reach their seasonal peak.
Motor vehicle imports are also performing strongly in the first four months of the financial year, up 24% on last year. Cement and refined oil import volumes are also tracking well above the same period last year.
Channel Enhancement Project
Work is progressing on the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for our proposed Channel Enhancement Project (CEP), with the draft EIS remaining on track to be lodged with the Office of the Coordinator-General in mid-2027.
The project team hosted a series of community drop-in information sessions across Caloundra, Bribie Island, Redcliffe and the Redlands during September and October 2026.
The sessions provided community members an opportunity to meet the project team, learn more about the proposed project, understand the EIS process and discuss the studies currently underway.
Further information, including fact sheets, project updates, maps, videos and a feedback form, is available on the project website.
Brisbane's cruise story
In October we released our fourth history feature article, looking back at cruising from the Port of Brisbane over the years.
Cruising has long been part of the Port’s story – from the first calls at Fisherman Islands in the early 1980s, the story behind the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal, to Brisbane firmly established as the country’s second busiest cruise terminal today.

Road extensions create access to FPE
During FY25, our Infrastructure team constructed 690m of new roads and 4km of road renewals to support a growing port.
This includes two road extensions in the Future Port Expansion area on Fisherman Islands which are now complete. These will provide access to new land when it is ready for development, helping ensure the road network can accommodate anticipated traffic volumes, vehicle loads and the evolving needs of port logistics.
The Lucinda Drive and Curlew Street extensions incorporated initiatives to increase material re-use and reduce waste including the use of recycled gravels for the road pavement layers of the project, Recycled Asphalt Product and seawater for dust control.
PBPL welcomes ALC Wayfinder Freight Heartland Tour
We welcomed participants from the Australian Logistics Council (ALC) Wayfinder Freight Heartland Tour in October, an immersive program designed to introduce women to careers across Australia’s supply chain and logistics industry.
The Port was one of three Brisbane sites visited during the full-day tour giving participants a firsthand look at supply chain operations in action.
The program aims to raise awareness of the diverse career pathways available across transport, logistics, technology and infrastructure, while helping participants understand how their existing skills could transfer into the sector.
Find out more on the ALC’s website.
Community Consultative Committee awards three grants
Our Community Consultative Committee (CCC) met in October, joined by new representatives from Brisbane Bayside State College, Wynnum State High School and Ampol Australia.
CCC grant funding was awarded to three local groups, Queensland Services Heritage Band Association to support this year’s Bayside Carols, Metropolitan District Netball Association, and Mission to Seafarers Brisbane for its Christmas Bag Appeal.
The CCC brings together local community, business and environmental representatives, providing an important forum to share Port updates, discuss current initiatives and stay connected with our local community. Learn more here.

Maritime Safety Queensland has completed upgrades to the Whyte Island Boat Ramp, improving safety, functionality and access for the local boating community.
The project involved reconstruction of the existing boat ramp to meet current marine infrastructure design standards, replacement of the floating walkway, and installation of new piles to support the upgraded structure.
