Trade through the Port remained steady in the first two months of FY27, with more than 6.3 million tonnes handled despite softer volumes.
Container volumes have remained resilient, declining by only 1.3%, supported by strong import growth in iron and steel and building products. Agricultural export volumes are below the prior year, with lower movements of meat products, cotton and agricultural seeds.
Non-container volumes are down 3.3% on the prior year,
largely driven by lower coal and agricultural seed exports. Growth in import volumes of crude oil, cement products, motor vehicles, and iron and steel has partially offset these declines, demonstrating continued strength across industrial, construction, and energy-related cargoes.

Fifty years ago, the decision to relocate Brisbane's existing upriver port facilities to Fisherman Islands set the Port on an incredible path of future growth and development, creating the capacity to support Queensland's future trade needs while growing alongside the community it serves.
Today, that same long-term vision continues to guide how we invest in infrastructure, strengthen trade connections and prepare the Port for future generations.

Channel Enhancement Project
Work is progressing on the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for our proposed Channel Enhancement Project (CEP), with the draft EIS remaining on track to be lodged with the Office of the Coordinator-General in mid-2027.
The project team will be hosting a series of community drop-in information sessions across Caloundra, Bribie Island, Redcliffe and the Redlands during September and October 2026.
The sessions will provide community members with an opportunity to meet the project team, learn more about the proposed project, understand the EIS process and discuss the studies currently underway. You can register your attendance here.

6-Star Green Star rating
PBPL has achieved a 6-Star Green Star rating for the Electrolux Group’s new Distribution and Experience Centre at Port West Industrial Estate Stage 2 – the highest rating available under the Green Building Council of Australia’s Design & As Built v1.3 tool.
The result represents a ‘World Leadership’ standard for sustainable design, construction and its first 6 months of operation, with the facility achieving 75 points out of a possible 100.
Delivered by PBPL in partnership with our customer Electrolux Group along with partners McNab, Johnstaff, Sparc*, Northrop Consulting Engineers, JLL and Theca Timber, the project reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and innovation in industrial development.
Officially opened in May 2025, the facility was the first customer development completed within Stage 2 of the Port West Industrial Estate at Lytton.

Brisbane hosts 2026 ACA conference
Brisbane welcomed cruise industry leaders from across Australia and the world for this year's Australian Cruise Association (ACA) Conference, proudly sponsored by Tourism and Events Queensland, Brisbane Economic Development Agency and Port of Brisbane.
As a guest speaker, CEO Neil Stephens spoke about how PBPL’s investment in the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal (BICT) was built on a shared vision for Queensland’s cruise industry, how investment, infrastructure and strong partnerships can unlock opportunities that extend well beyond the berth, and what Brisbane will require to remain competitive as a cruise gateway into the next decade.

PBPL’s innovative approach to renewable energy achieved national recognition as winner of the Transport & Logistics category in the Financial Review Sustainability Leaders for 2026 for our Port of Brisbane Virtual Energy Network (VEN).
The awards celebrate organisations making meaningful progress on sustainability challenges while creating value for businesses, communities, and the economy.
The VEN works by ‘virtually sharing’ locally generated renewable energy between PBPL-operated and participating customer sites in the energy network, progressing from a trial in 2021 to expanding in FY26 to enable Port of Brisbane customers to voluntarily participate.
Through our long-term Vision 2060 ambitions, we’re continuing to explore opportunities to expand renewable energy solutions across the Port more broadly, and the VEN is a key initiative supporting these efforts.

Safety Leaders Group
Our Port of Brisbane Safety Leaders Group met this month to exchange learnings and strengthen safety leadership across the Port of Brisbane.
We presented an update on our project with iMOVE Australia and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to design a framework, operational requirements and digital twin to simulate autonomous short-haul container transfers at the Port, sharing learnings around safety considerations as part of the discussion.

Since July 2020, our teams have recycled more than 200,000 containers through the Containers for Change program, generating more than $20,000 for our employee charity partners.
A significant contribution has come from the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal, where passengers and visitors have helped turn everyday recycling into meaningful support for community organisations. Combined with collections from our operational worksites, including onboard the TSHD Brisbane, these efforts have diverted thousands of containers from landfill while giving back to the community.
Leaders' roll up their sleeves for CEO Bike Build
We were proud to once again support the TRACTION CEO Bike Build as part of our Community Partnerships Program, hosted at the Multi User Terminal on Fisherman Islands in late August.
Students from four local high schools were partnered with over 20 business leaders to build a bicycle as part of TRACTION’s hands-on mentoring program.

For the third consecutive year, we’ve supported the annual NAIDOC 3x3 Basketball Tournament at Carina, hosted by former Olympian and Brisbane Bullets coach Brian Kerle Basketball and the Southern District Spartans.
Achieving a record turnout with over 450 athletes and their families, the tournament brought together the community for a day of sport, connection and cultural exchange. Whyte Island Boat Ramp upgrades
Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is continuing to progress upgrades to the Whyte Island Boat Ramp to improve safety, functionality, and access for the local boating community.
The work involves reconstruction of the existing boat ramp to meet current Department of Transport and Main Roads marine infrastructure design standards, replacement of the existing floating walkway and installation of new piles.
A full temporary closure of the ramp remains in place during the upgrades. The project commenced in July and is expected to be completed by October, weather and conditions permitting.
The nearest public boat ramp is Glenora Street, Wynnum North/Wynnum, about a 10-minute drive away.
