Trade update
New season winter crops are now being shipped through the Port to global markets, with over 150,000 tonnes of bulk wheat exported to Vietnam and Malaysia between September to November. Chickpea exports also remain strong, with over 200,000 tonnes shipped in November, mostly bound for Indian markets. These volumes are in line with last year’s elevated demand, when exporters raced to beat India’s tariff deadline in March 2025. The momentum is anticipated to continue, with several bulk chickpea shipments scheduled during December. BICT celebrates 500th cruise call
The Brisbane International Cruise Terminal (BICT) has welcomed its 500th cruise ship since opening in June 2022, with the Carnival Luminosa in port on Sunday 14 December. The ship’s Captain Adriano Binacchi was joined by PBPL CEO, Neil Stephens, for a cake cutting along with our port team and staff from our cruise partners who have helped make the 500 calls possible. In just over three years, more than 2.5 million passenger movements have been recorded through the terminal across the 500 ship calls. With over 140 calls expected the 2025/26 season – including nine maiden visits – the BICT continues to play a central role in supporting cruise tourism and economic benefits across the state. Cruising from the BICT this summer season? Everything you need to know about the BICT, including parking information, can be found on our website.

'Bush to Port' race day huge success
We’ve been a proud sponsor of the annual Goondiwindi ‘Bush to Port’ race day and Community Fireworks event for over a decade, with the weekend a fantastic opportunity for our team to connect with agricultural customers and supply chain partners in the area. Every year, around 50% of the National Cotton Crop is exported through the Port of Brisbane, so while in town earlier this month, some of our team enjoyed a tour of LDC Macintyre Gin to see how cotton grown and processed in the Border Rivers region makes its way to global markets.
600 Christmas gift bags packed for seafarers
The Port community joined Mission to Seafarers Brisbane Inc and Women's International Shipping & Trading Association Queensland (WISTA Qld) to pack over 600 Christmas gift bags for the many seafarers who’ll remain on vessels over the Christmas period, helping to keep trade moving. Globally, The Mission to Seafarers provides essential support to 1.89 million seafarers across more than 200 ports in 50 countries, ensuring they have care and connection while away. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time, including our own port team, to lend a hand.
