Trade update
Trade volumes have continued to perform strongly, with almost 28.5 million total tonnes of cargo having moved through the Port during the financial year to date (July 2025 to March 2026), an increase of more than 3 million tonnes on the same period last year.
Export growth has been driven by coal, with strong volumes across cotton, timber (logs) and refrigerated beef. On the import side, the Port has seen strong import volumes of crude oil, cement and building products, reflecting continued activity in the construction sector. Channel Enhancement Project
Work is progressing on Port of Brisbane’s Channel Enhancement Project’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), following the release of the final Terms of Reference in September 2025. The draft EIS is expected to be lodged with the Office of the Coordinator General (OCG) for review in mid-2027. The EIS involves a comprehensive program of technical studies to understand any potential impacts and inform project planning.
Many of these studies include the collection of new data, field surveys and investigations. As an example, water quality instruments are currently deployed at seven locations across the Bay to measure natural turbidity levels. This monitoring will help build a clear picture of existing conditions and support a robust impact assessment of any changes to water quality from the Project.

We’re continuing to invest in the world leading Nonlinear Channel Optimisation Simulator (NCOS) Online technology developed by DHI Seaport and in use at Port of Brisbane to support a more efficient, connected, and sustainable port.
This month, we released a new weather module to the Port’s waterside stakeholders – the first major enhancement in the implementation of NCOS Version 2.0.
We thank all stakeholders for their support in the development and trial of this new module and we’re continuing to work closely with key stakeholders – including Maritime Safety Queensland, pilots, and tug operators – to broaden the application of this technology across the Port.
If you’d like to learn more or request access to the tool, please contact Port Operations Planning Manager, Damien Garske.
740kW solar system installed at Arrow Transport
Members of our Executive Leadership Team visited Arrow Transport this month where a 740kW system including almost 1,200 rooftop solar panels, associated infrastructure and enhanced rooftop safety systems have been installed to support the Port’s Renewable Energy Strategy and provide enhanced maintenance safety systems.
Arrow Transport is one of several locations where PBPL is installing new solar infrastructure as part of the Port of Brisbane Virtual Energy Network (VEN), providing PBPL and participating tenants with access to locally generated 100% renewable energy during solar generating periods, supporting broader decarbonisation efforts. Seatrade Cruise Global
In early April, we joined a delegation to the Seatrade Global Cruise event in Miami, USA, led by the Australian Cruise Association along with Tourism & Events Queensland and other partners.
The annual event brings together global cruise lines, government and tourism industry stakeholders, and was an opportunity promote Brisbane along with other Australian cruise destinations.
With the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal playing a central role in growing Queensland’s cruise tourism, we sought to promote Brisbane as a preferred port of call to potential new customers while deepening relationships with our existing cruise customers. We also highlighted the additional cruise capacity available through Brisbane’s Multi User Terminal for transit calls when the BICT is fully booked. Annual Pulse Check Survey
Every year, PBPL invites customers and stakeholders to participate in our Annual Pulse Check Survey to receive feedback on our performance and on issues of importance to the Port of Brisbane.
Thank you to the more than 150 customers and partners who participated in our 2025 survey. We greatly appreciate the time taken and constructive feedback shared.
Our customers and stakeholders tell us they have a strong relationship with PBPL and consider shipping channel safety and capacity, energy transition and rail connectivity to be the most important issues facing the Port of Brisbane.
With PBPL donating $50 for every completed survey, this year our customers and stakeholders also helped raise a total of $7,650 for our 2025/26 Employee Charity, Challenge DV. Almost $66,000 has been raised for our employee charities since the annual survey started in 2018. Australian Shipping & Maritime Awards
We’re proud to share that PBPL is the Major Host Sponsor of the 2026 DCN Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry Awards, which will be held for the first time in Brisbane this November.
The annual awards, which PBPL has sponsored for more than a decade, brings together leaders from across the shipping and maritime sector to recognise excellence and innovation within the industry.
We look forward to seeing many of the port and logistics community on the evening. More information will be available soon on the DCN website.
School Holiday Explorer Tours
The Port welcomed an influx of visitors during the April school holidays, with people taking the opportunity to experience our popular Explorer Tours.
Available during school holidays each year, the Explorer Tours continue to be a way for the community to step inside the Port and gain a deeper understanding of its day to day operations.
With the start of the new school term, we’ve also continued to welcome organised school tours and connect with students from across South East Queensland through our eco-education partners Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre and Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre and EcoMarines Foundation.
More information about public Explorer Tours is available on our website. To connect with the Port about an organised school tour, please contact our Reception team.
