Register now for our Safety 1 Forum!
Every year we look forward to our annual Port of Brisbane Safety 1 Forum, and this year is no exception.
Keynote speaker, Red Bull Race Pilot and Risk Management Expert, Matt Hall, returns to build on last year’s presentation and we’ll also welcome Patrick Terminals’ Head of Health, Safety, Security and Environment, Nathan Beves. Both speakers will explore this years’ theme, ‘Safe by Design’, offering a practical focus on strengthening safety culture and systems in high-risk environments.
The forum will take place on Wednesday 5 August, 12.00pm – 3:00pm at the Multi User Terminal at the Port of Brisbane and is open to all port tenants.
Please visit our website to register and download the program.
First BYD RoRo calls at port
May marked an important milestone for motor vehicle imports at the Port of Brisbane with BYD's new roll-on, roll-off vessel, BYD Zhengzhou calling into AAT at the Port for the first time, on its maiden voyage to Australia.
Approximately 95% of Queensland's cars come through the Port, including an increasing number of electric vehicles.
Port of Brisbane's Trade and Development Manager, James Wardle, presented Captain Zhao Taotao a plaque to commemorate the occasion.
Incitec Pivot Fertilisers celebrate milestone shipment
Earlier this month we joined our customer Incitec Pivot Fertilisers, Australian Government representatives and Indonesian Government dignitaries to mark a milestone shipment of urea aboard the MV Medi Luna arriving at Port of Brisbane.
The 47,250 tonne shipment was part of the 250,000 tonne supply deal between Incitec Pivot and PT Pupuk Indonesia, supported by the Australian and Indonesian governments. The additional supply is supporting Australia’s agricultural industry who support our nation’s food production.
Congratulations to Incitec Pivot and PT Pupuk Indonesia. Read the Australian Government media statement or watch Incitec Pivot Fertilisers’ highlights video here.
Record funds raised for Challenge DV
Our employees have raised a record $67,500 for our 2025/26 Employee Charity, Challenge DV, with all funds supporting the leading domestic violence prevention organisation.
Challenge DV works with workplaces, schools, and communities to create safer, more inclusive environments for all.
Throughout the year, the team raised funds through initiatives including Containers for Change, scrap metal recycling, chocolate sales, raffles, BBQ’s and employee giving programs. Our team also participated in charity related events including Darkness to Daylight to help raise funds.
Thank you also to our customers and stakeholders who participated in our Pulse Check Survey last year, with every completed survey contributing $50 to our fundraising efforts. Containers for Change recycling through the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal also made a significant contribution.
Channel Enhancement Project
As part of planning for the proposed Channel Enhancement Project (CEP), the Port of Brisbane will be undertaking marine geotechnical investigations within parts of Moreton Bay, including a focus on the North West Channel, supported by engineering consultant WSP and archaeological consultant Cosmos Archaeology.
Geotechnical testing is required to address the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the Environmental Impact Statement for the Project and will collect information about seabed conditions and underlying geology. This type of testing within the channel areas has occurred multiple times in recent years to support the Project.
These investigations are being undertaken in accordance with a marine park permit for the activity and are planned to occur from late June to September 2026, conditions permitting. Whyte Island Boat Ramp upgrades
Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is upgrading the Whyte Island Boat Ramp to improve safety, functionality, and access for the local boating community.
The works will involve reconstruction of the existing boat ramp to meet current Department of Transport and Main Roads marine infrastructure design standards, replacement of the existing floating walkway and installation of new piles.
A full temporary closure of the ramp is required during the upgrades from early July 2026 with expected completion by October, weather and conditions permitting, for public safety and to enable efficient construction.
The nearest public boat ramp is Glenora Street, Wynnum North/Wynnum, about a 10-minute drive away.
For enquiries, please email MSQ at: boatinginfrastructure@msq.qld.gov.au or visit the project webpage: Whyte Island boat ramp upgrade (Maritime Safety Queensland) TSHD Brisbane sails north
Following its annual campaign in Brisbane undertaking maintenance dredging of the Port’s navigational channel, the TSHD Brisbane sailed north in June to support Queensland’s northern ports.
While in Brisbane, the TSHD Brisbane crew and our Marine and Hydrographic Surveying teams worked to clear excess material from the Port of Brisbane shipping channel, reaches and berths to support safe, navigable depths of the channel for commercial shipping. These works are undertaken under strict environmental permit conditions.
Currently the crew is supporting our northern customers in Weipa. We wish the TSHD Brisbane team safe travels!
Quarterly Community Consultative Committee
Svitzer Australia hosted our quarterly Community Consultative Committee (CCC) at its Brisbane tug base, where the Committee toured the base and received an update on what’s happening around the Port more broadly. Operating since 2002, the CCC is one of the ways we connect with local community, businesses, and educators.
Thank you to all the Committee members for your contributions and ongoing involvement.
For more information, please email Edward Harwood, our Community Relations Manager.
International Day of the Seafarer
This month we celebrated Day of the Seafarer with the port community, an opportunity to recognise and thank seafarers locally – and around the world – who keep global trade moving.
Some of the Port team joined Mission to Seafarers Brisbane Inc and WISTA Australia (QLD) who brought together more than 80 attendees across the maritime and logistics sectors to share industry insights and acknowledge the significant contribution of the people who keep the supply chain moving and our channels open.
